Members of the Southern Senators Forum have elected Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East, as their chairman, barely 24 hours after the suspension of the chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, Senator Abdul Ningi.

Recall Tribune online reported on March 12, 2024, the Senate suspended Senator Abdul Ningi over allegations of N3.7 trillion padding of the 2024 budget. However, shortly after his suspension, Senator Abdul Ningi resigned from his position as the chairman of the Northern Senators Forum.
